Also hosted by ELIE SAAB’s Girl of Now Initiative, two panels brought together young, internationally recognized female figures: Sara Sampaio, Kristina Bazan, Noor Fares and Lauren Remington Platt. They spoke on influence, entrepreneurship and innovation in a discussion moderated by award winning journalist, Rima Maktabi during the fashion and beauty convention Jamaloukicon.
The first panel joined international influencer Kristina Bazan, jewelry designer Noor Fares and tech entrepreneur Lauren Remington Platt each shared their journey thriving to make a difference in their fields—inspiring the local youth (in the audience?) with their unique stories. Kristina Bazan talks about the importance of staying true to oneself and following ones passion despite the difficulties and opposition faced, while Noor Fares describes the challenges of starting a business and the importance of innovation as a tool to set a jewelry brand apart from the competition. Tech entrepreneur Lauren Remington Platt addressed the audience by advising them to set short-term and long-term goals as a way to turn their aspirations into reality.
With her popular follower base in the region, the second panel featured international super model Sara Sampaio who was welcomed by crowds eager to listen to her story. Influence in a digital age and persistence despite difficulties were all topics discussed by Sampaio. She opened up on her struggle with her height as a model and how she persevered and surpassed criticism to reach her dreams of appearing on covers of leading magazines and walking the runways of international fashion capitals. Sara also answered questions on body shamming, confidence, and success. “It is very important for women to stand for each other and be kind to one another. This is the first step in making change in a men-led world,” concluded Sampaio.
These conversations aim at shaping the game-changing mindsets of the next generation of women poised to take centre stage and, in their turn, lead by example.
ELIE SAAB’s Girl Of Now initiative sheds light on female achievers of Now—highlighting their accomplishments and wisdom to inspire younger generations to lead by example. In perfect synergy, WOMENA promotes innovation, investment and inclusion by empowering women to invest in start-ups, fostering a collaborative community of motivated, proactive female investors.
Hosted at Ayyam gallery in Dubai’s Arts District, the high tea event featured three inspirational speakers in the presence of a group of prominent female figures from the Middle East sharing their own experiences in entrepreneurship, investment and leadership. “Women are the real game-changers in this region, and yet we rarely see them in the spotlight,” expressed Elissa Freiha, founder and CEO of WOMENA. “We need to be more outspoken about our accomplishments because when we are, it’s contagious.”
Joining Elissa on stage was Muna Al Gurg, philanthropist and retail director of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, as well as Farah Al Qassieh, tech entrepreneur and founder of Stutter UAE. Muna Al Gurg in her turn added: “Women from different backgrounds coming together and sharing their stories enables them to inspire each other and places their skills and strengths in perspective.”
Surrounded by the abstract paintings of female artist Samia Halaby, an influential scholar of Palestinian art, the thought provoking talks are part of an ongoing dialogue sparked by the Girl Of Now initiative in the hopes of influencing the game-changing mind sets of tomorrow.
